Spiritually Speaking: How can somebody show themselves the truth, in a manner they can understand...?

Act in a way consistant with the doctrine you would like to follow whether it be your own or one that already exists. This should be your only conscious effort. Reflecting on your actions and response to your actions will most likely come naturally.
