Guys-opinion about waiting for ?

I've had before, and i had with him right away because i was really horny, within like 6 days of knowing him.. im not usually like that so dont call me a slut. anyway, the guy didn't respect me because i jumped into bed with so soon. what's a good amount of time to wait, that's not cruel, but enough to build anticipation and respect?
